Monsanto Q3 profit rises 39%
The agriculture firm made 93 cents a share, up 26 cents over the year-ago quarter and 8 cents over views, on a 14% rise in revenue to $1.7 bil. But analysts fret over bad-debt reserve increases and declining herbicide sales; Monsanto says it's refocusing on seed sales, which are expected to fuel 10% EPS growth in '05-'06. Shares rose 3.5% to 38.50.

AutoZone drops on weak comps
Shares in the No. 1 auto parts retailer fell 9% to 80.10, a day after AutoZone said same-store sales fell 1% in the first seven weeks of its Q4, and same-store retail sales fell 3%.
