Amylin files for lizard spit drug
The drug maker and Eli Lilly asked U.S. regulators for permission to market a new treatment -- derived from the saliva of a desert lizard -- for Type 2 diabetes. The drug is the first in a new class of medicines known as incretin mimetics to treat the adult-onset diabetes, which affects about 15 mil Americans. Amylin rose 3% to 22.80.
Teva plans Warner case appeal
The world's No. 1 generic drug maker will appeal a U.S. court's decision to validate Pfizer subsidiary Warner-Lambert's patent for anti-hypertension drug Accupril. The drug, which made $589 mil in sales last year, is patented until '07. The FDA had given Teva's generic version Quinapril approval in '03 after a court granted the patent, and Warner-Lambert sued for infringement. Shares fell 1% to 67.18.
