Freddie Mac earnings fall 52%
The government-chartered mortgage giant earned $6.79 a share in '03, including items, vs. $14.18 in '02 as it took losses from hedging against interest rate changes, and expenses rose due to an accounting scandal. It had delayed results as it untangled a $5 mil misstatement of earnings in '00-02. Freddie has yet to release finanical results for Q1 2004. Shares rose 11 cents to 63.30.
** Janus Capital agreed to sell the $600 mil private-client division of its Bay Isle Financial unit to First Republic Bank for $8 mil. The deal is expected to close in Q3. Janus fell 0.5% to 16.49.

General Mills Q4 profit up 15.6%
The cereal maker benefited from an extra week of sales in the quarter, making 74 cents a share ex items, 2 cents over views. Its sales rose 10% to $2.79 bil on cereal and yogurt sales; its refrigerated dough sales were hurt by the sustained popularity of low-carb diets.
