Jul. 1--The Yontrakit Group, the local distributor for Audi AG -- with the blessing of the German automaker -- plans to request that the location of its 50-rai assembly plant be classified as a customs-free zone.
The luxury automaker is looking at making a six billion baht investment to manufacture its latest luxury model, the Audi A7, and make Thailand its regional production base, sources close to the deal said.
Thailand would become the luxury carmaker's second manufacturing centre in Asia after China, if it opts to produce the A7 here, said a high-ranking official at the Board of Investment.
