Sounder Banks Expected from New Thai Measures to Reduce Bad Loans.
Feb. 7--Local commercial banks are expected to be strengthened considerably over the next two years, with the assistance of several state measures, according to Finance Minister Suchart Jaovisidha.
The cabinet is expected to approve next week an amendment to the Asset Management Corp Act to allow the state-owned agency to purchase non-performing assets from local banks.
The AMC was established by the government in 1997 to purchase distressed assets from the 56 closed finance companies.
