Jan. 5--Tourism development in the Greater Mekong Subregion is set to take another leap forward next month when Laos hosts its first Asean Tourism Forum (ATF), the region's foremost travel trade show.
After some initial hesitation about whether it had the necessary infrastructure to handle it, the Lao government decided to go ahead, especially as it became a question of losing face vis a vis another least developed country, Cambodia, which hosted a highly successful ATF in 2003.
