Jan. 8--FOREIGN INVESTORS WILL BE BACK: The futility of making predictions in terms of where the stock market index may be at a given point in time was discussed in this column last year. The last few weeks have borne that out with the SET attaining the consensus index year-end 2004 forecast of about 800 on the first trading day of the year! So much for crystal-ball gazing.

This column's view on the banking sector was correctly borne out as banks rallied after the BBL placement. But that call was balanced by view on the near-term SET index level which turned out to be too conservative. I assumed the market would take a breather in the low ...
