Jan. 9--The Commerce Ministry is discussing with private insurers the possibility of designing insurance policies to cover bail for criminal suspects.

Deputy Commerce Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal said the proposal was initiated by the courts, which wanted to address existing problems under which certain people exploited persons accused of having committed crimes by demanding very high collateral to bail them out.

Mr Pongsak said most details of the premium structure for the new bail insurance policy were expected to be hammered out by officials before the end of this month.
