Thai Finance Agency to Propose Changes in Excise Tax Structure for Auto Sector.

Feb. 9--The Finance Ministry will propose a sweeping new excise tax structure for the auto sector to the cabinet for approval next month.
Finance Minister Suchart Jaovisidha said the new framework was aimed at simplifying the current tax structure and encouraging innovation within the industry, ultimately benefiting consumers.
"We will make the tax structure, now based around nearly 10 different rates, simpler and fairer for the public," he said.
Distortions within the tax code would be eliminated, with clear definitions established for each category of vehicle.
