Byline: Tom Schaefer
Two books to stir your imagination and test your spiritual barometer:
Number one is the New York Times' best seller "The Da Vinci Code." This fast-paced novel by Dan Brown has people buzzing about the secret messages contained within the art and new information about the life _ and alleged wife _ of Jesus.
Fast-paced and full of surprises, the book is guaranteed to spark discussion.
Number two has received less notice. And good luck trying to find it. It's titled "Leonardo's Incessant Last Supper" by Leo Steinberg (Zone, $43). If you strike out trying to find the book locally, call the Seminary Co-op Bookstore at (800) 777-1456 weekdays.
Gregory Wolfe reviewed the book in 1996 in the journal First Things and called it "a towering masterpiece."
Not only does it delve into the rich symbolism and multiple meanings of Da Vinci's painting, Wolfe says, but it "crackles with energy" as it sheds new light on the painting.
