Jeremy Camp, "Carried Away: The Worship Project" _ 3 stars (BEC)
One of the most noticed new artists last year was Jeremy Camp. He was nominated for Dove Awards as Best Male Artist and Best Worship Leader.
Camp's first album release, "Stay," resulted in six radio singles. Topping the list was "I Still Believe," a revealing, emotional song about his faith in Christ during his wife's battle with ovarian cancer and eventual death.
His powerful vocals transfer nicely into his second release, "Carried Away." I, like many others, was anticipating a worship album from Camp.
Following on the heels of success from "Stay," this album continues with rock/pop arrangements, clear heartfelt vocals and, overall, a nicely produced project.
Although it's a pleasant-sounding disc, I was disappointed that only four of the songs are originals. Remakes of Chris Tomlin's "Enough" (track three) and "Wonderful Maker" (track four), though great songs, are too straight-forward and don't capture the heart of worship that Camp expresses better in "Empty ...
