QUESTION: During the first two weeks of the low-carbohydrate diets, bread is not allowed. Now that low-carb bread is available, is it possible to incorporate it and still get the same weight loss? Also, can you eat soy sausage, soy burgers and turkey bacon and get the weight loss you would get from real meat products?

ANSWER: If you are counting carbohydrates, simply read the label for the total grams of carbohydrates in a serving of the low-carb bread, hopefully picking a whole-wheat version. Or you could exchange a half-cup of fruit, which is approximately 15 grams of total carbohydrate, for the amount of the low-carb bread having 15 grams of carbohydrate.
