Attorneys cited First Amendment rights in their fight for access to closed courtroom transcripts in the Kobe Bryant sexual assault case that were mistakenly sent to seven media groups last week.

In his emergency petition filed Monday, Denver-based attorney Thomas Kelley challenged Judge Terry Ruckriegle's order to hold any media in contempt if it were to publish information in the transcripts that a court reporter inadvertently sent to outlets.

Kelley claims that the media has a right to the "legally obtained" transcript from last week's closed rape-shield hearing at Eagle County Justice Center. The text likely detailed the…
