Mar. 1--More and more Thai exporters are trying to transform themselves from being original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of global brands to original brand manufacturers (OBMs).

This trend is especially clear in the fashion, food and beverage industries. However, whether an OEM should become solely an OBM is debatable.

"Thailand is not only a world-class OEM, but we have our own brands that reflect the diversity and the capabilities of Thailand's fashion industry," Industry Minister Pinit Charusombat said recently of the OBM trend.
