WICHITA, Kan. _ In Iraq, Roger Carpenter will look for good roads and trails to jog. There are always good places, even among roadside bombs.
And he will find places of beauty to admire. There are those, too.
We are going to stay there for years, he said. He might stay there for years, too. So he will look for pretty places, and he will make friends because people are good everywhere.
Iraq is a bad place, he said. "But I do pretty good in bad places." It was the same in Bosnia, East Timor, Kosovo.
Carpenter trains police officer recruits in ruined but rebuilding countries.
