Mar. 3--BankThai, positioned as a wholesale bank since its founding during the 1997 crisis, has announced a sweeping strategic shift with a plan to expand into the retail banking sector.
President Phirasilp Subhapolsiri said recent developments within the sector made it necessary for the bank to re-evaluate its strategy and direction.
The financial master plan announced by the government in January clearly points toward sector consolidation, with Thai Military Bank already announcing plans to take over DBS Thai Danu and the Industrial Finance Corp of Thailand, and ABN Amro planning to divest its 80 percent stake in Bank ...
