Central Group Buys Tops Supermarkets in Thailand.
Mar. 4--Dutch supermarket giant Royal Ahold NV has sold its last piece of interest in Asia, its holdings in Tops supermarkets in Thailand, to its partner, retail giant Central.
The transaction will give Central Retail Corp full control of Tops, a chain with assets worth around 1.7 billion baht. The deal, whose value was not disclosed, will also give Royal Ahold cash to reduce its current debt of over 11 billion euros (539 billion baht).
CRC Ahold, the 100 percent-owned Thai subsidiary of Royal Ahold, is the operator of 47 Tops supermarkets stores and a wholesale logistics operation servicing some 300 convenience stores throughout Thailand.
