Mar. 5--Imagine this scenario -- you insert your ATM card into a machine, type in your password, and nothing happens. A screen comes up saying that the machine is out of order, your card has been swallowed, and you should contact your branch.
A passer-by steps up and says helpfully that perhaps you should key in your password again, to see if your card gets returned. You do so with no result, the stranger shrugs his shoulders, you both exchange curses and the two of you walk away, cursing the perils of new technology.
Beware! You may have just become a victim of identity theft.
