Putting out fires in the bosque this year has been touted as a model of cooperation between government agencies.
But closing the river forest to people who might start fires? That's been a different story.
Whether the bosque was open or closed to the public depended on what agency you talked to Thursday and when.
As of noon Thursday, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District was saying the bosque was closed effective today.
"As far as we're concerned, the bosque is closed," said Subhas Shah, conservancy district chief engineer.
But at 1 p.m., Mayor Martin Chavez held a news conference and announced the levy roads and the paved biking and hiking trails will remain open until July 2. The plan …
