Levi Strauss & Co. reorganizes with eye to trade talks.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Levi Strauss & Co. has moved to position itself for trade policy changes currently being negotiated among the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The move, which took effect Feb. 1, establishes a new Levi Strauss North America division, which will encompass all Levi operations in Mexico, Canada and all but manufacturing operations in the United States.

Before the reorganization, operations in Mexico and Canada were directed by Levi Strauss's International division -- with Mexico under a Latin American subdivision and Canada under its own subdivision.

The changes will be phased in over two years.
