Mar. 16--LA VERNE, Calif. -- Noise at two locations along La Verne's stretch of the 210 Freeway exceeds federal noise thresholds --both on a street where residents are suing to move away from the freeway, a city noise study shows.

The city study, presented to the City Council on Monday night, argues that Caltrans followed federal and state noise abatement standards to a large extent during the freeway's construction, but failed to comply with a section requiring "every reasonable effort ... be made to obtain substantial noise reductions."
