Apr. 1--Auto industry executives welcomed Thailand's push to build free-trade areas with major industrialised countries as a way to help boost market access and help the country reach its goal to become an auto-producing hub for the region.
Ninnart Chaithirapinyo, vice-chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), said with the new FTA agreements, Thailand could raise its vehicle production to 1.8 million units by 2010.
Production next year was projected at one million units, compared with 750,000 in 2003.
