Apr. 3--Valuair, Singapore's new budget carrier, is entering the intensifying competition in the low-cost airline industry in Thailand by choosing Bangkok as its first destination.

Executive director Jimmy Lau told reporters at a briefing yesterday in Bangkok that the company chose the Thai capital because the city was a very popular destination for Singaporeans.

Valuair initially will offer two daily flights on the Singapore-Bangkok route starting at the end of this month on one of its two new 162-seat Airbus A320 jets.
