Apr. 2--Financial sector liberalisation and globalisation are making the need to improve competitiveness in the Thai banking system especially urgent, according to regulators and bankers.
Speaking at a seminar on Tuesday at the Bangkok Convention Centre on financial sector issues, bankers said further liberalisation should be carefully considered and only implemented following consultation with the private sector.
Jamlong Atikul, president of the Bank of Ayudhya, said that while most consumers were likely to benefit in the short term from financial sector liberalisation and greater access to financial services, higher-risk groups could suffer from ...
