2004 JUL 1 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Recently published research from Sweden "does not support the use of bladder contrast at radiologic investigation in the routine preoperative assessment of patients with genital prolapse."

"Radiologic investigation can be used to complement clinical assessments in patients with genital prolapse involving multiple compartments," said D. Altman and colleagues, Karolinska Institute, Danderyd Hospital. "The aim of the present study [of 33 women] was to evaluate the correlation between clinical examination using the Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification system (POP-Q) and CDP [cystodefecoperitoneography]."

They found "a moderate correlation between clinical and radiologic findings in patients with anterior vaginal wall prolapse," which "does not support the use of bladder contrast at radiologic investigation in the routine preoperative assessment of patients with genital prolapse."
