2004 JUL 1 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- QMed, Inc., (QMED) and Humana (HUM) have signed an agreement under which QMed will provide its heart failure disease management program to Humana's South Florida Medicare Advantage members who suffer from severe congestive heart failure, defined as Class III and IV CHF.
Humana serves more than 230,000 Medicare Advantage members in Florida, 130,000 of whom reside in South Florida. Under terms of the agreement, QMed will implement its coordinated physician and patient disease management services to eligible members in South Florida's Broward and West Palm Beach counties. There is no cost to Humana Medicare Advantage members eligible for the new services that QMed provides.
Terry Smith, Humana vice president and chief medical officer in South Florida, said, "Heart failure is clearly a debilitating and costly condition that disproportionately affects seniors. We are very pleased to bring QMed's program for the first time to our Florida Medicare members who suffer from CHF and also pleased to bring its best-practice, evidence-based component to our members' treating physicians."
