2004 JUL 1 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- In a presentation to the 2004 annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology researchers presented data that called into question the use of the Gail Model as a diagnostic indicator of breast cancer in African American women.
According to L. Adams-Campbell and colleagues at the Howard University Cancer Center in Washington, DC, and Boston University, "The Gail model has been utilized to predict the risk of breast cancer in women of all race/ethnic groups although the model has only been validated in U.S. white women."
The researchers wanted to see if the Model was equally valid for use in black women.
