Apr. 6--The avian flu and unrest in the South have taken their toll on the tourism industry, with a drop of 13 percent in international arrivals reported in March.

Tourism and Sports Minister Sonthaya Khunpluem said the number of tourist arrivals fell 13 percent to 580,000 last month, a sharper drop from a 0.4 percent decline in arrivals to 1.4 million during January and February.

The ministry has instructed the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to come up with a revised marketing plan by focusing more on co-promoting with media and travel agents in targeted markets, particularly China, Japan and European ...
