Apr. 5--Power blackouts could become more commonplace in the next three years with demand rising and available supply from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) holding steady.
Signs of instability in the power system were seen on March 26 when a one-hour blackout occurred in a wide area in the Central region due to a technical hitch at the Wang Noi power plant caused by a pickup in demand, said an energy expert who asked to remain anonymous.
He said that under the revised power development plan (PDP), new capacity would not come online to Egat's system until 2007.
