Apr. 7-- WHY FUEL ETHANOL MAKES SENSE: The Thai government has a clear policy to promote fuel ethanol production from cassava and molasses by granting financial incentives to private investors.

The National Ethanol Committee under the Industry Ministry has set an ethanol production target of one million litres per day to substitute for MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) used in gasoline. Plants have been approved for eight private investors with a total production capacity of 1.5 million litres per day.
