Mar. 26--Soaring steel prices could bring federally funded highway and bridge projects to a halt -- unless the government steps in, a Lancaster executive told a Congressional committee Thursday.

Patrick P. Loftus, president of High Steel Structures Inc., speaking on behalf of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, made the remarks to the House Small Business Committee.

Loftus asked the committee to support the association's effort to convince the federal Highway Administration to enact emergency relief for steel fabricators such as High Steel.
