Apr. 29--PARAMUS, N.J. -- The Borough Council has eliminated the position of zoning assistant in the Building Department.
By a vote of 4-2, along party lines, the council abolished the position held by nine-year borough employee Lisa Meserole. She will not be terminated, only her position will.
Republican Councilwoman Natalie Zammitti Shaw, the Building Department liaison, said the zoning assistant position was eliminated because there was not enough work. Zammitti Shaw said it was part of a restructuring that will help the department run more efficiently. She said Building Department head Peter Wells anticipates a downturn in the number of applications.
The zoning assistant takes photos of the site, reviews architectural plans, site surveys, and residential applications for construction, types reports for applications, and works with residents when they have questions on zoning ordinances. The zoning assistant also reviews and approves all commercial signage applications.
