Apr. 29--TRENTON, N.J. -- The state of the State House is not good.

Its gold leaf dome may be gleaming, and an overhaul 13 years ago may have restored grandeur to the legislative chambers, but the executive wing of the building, where Governor McGreevey and his staff work, is a total mess.

How much of a mess? Try $90 million worth.

Problems with the gubernatorial side of the State House -- the front portion that faces Trenton's quaint West State Street -- go beyond the peeling paint, water-stained stucco, and generally shabby facade of the 210-year-old building. The place is a firetrap. The roof leaks like a sieve. ...
