May 4--For years, Thailand has been accused of paying lip service to the need to protect intellectual property rights, as witnessed by the scores of fake watches, pirated movies or ripoff branded shirts available at local markets everywhere.
But an increasing number of Thai companies venturing abroad are complaining that their own brands and innovations are being quickly copied by Chinese factories after reaching the market.
Thai gift makers attending the giant Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair last week say product quality and creative design are crucial for staying ahead of Chinese copycats.
