May 5--The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) has called on the government to extend state guarantees for loans taken by the electricity giant over the next 10 years.

Egat directors also approved a petition to the government to have the state enterprise maintain its monopoly over power purchases until the end of the decade, to help ensure its ability to meet financial obligations.

The government has raised the issue of Egat's burden on the public debt as one reason why the state enterprise needs to be privatised and listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Of Egat's 140 billion baht in ...
