May 7--Cambodian and Laotian diplomats have expressed enthusiasm for Thailand's policy shift to import rice from neighbouring countries for re-export.
Embassy representatives of both countries in Bangkok said the new policy would help their countries develop their rice production for export to the benefit of their farmers and overall economies.
Bounthiene Keopisa, the Laotian economic and commercial counsellor to Bangkok, said Laos had long wanted to promote rice as a key cash crop, but lack of marketing experience had hindered efforts.
