May 7--Fierce competition triggered by the rapid expansion of budget airlines, spiralling fuel costs and the travel low season have prompted PB Air to shelve its plans for expansion, including the proposed acquisition of a jetliner.
The privately owned carrier's management, led by Piya Bhirombhakdi, president of Boon Rawd Brewery, has decided to postpone plans to lease the new aircraft for at least two months, according to Captain Yothin Pamon-montri, the president of PB Air.
The acquisition of the aircraft would be instrumental in the airline's plans to expand to neighbouring countries, notably China.
