Apr. 24--I love the convenience of e-mailing JPEGS taken by our digital camera rather than mailing hard copies. But some of my relatives don't have e-mail. And I still enjoy making and sharing traditional photo albums.
Sure, I could take my memory card to CVS or Costco, but why bother when I can order inexpensive, good-quality prints without getting up from the computer, and receive them within days?
There's a variety of professional online printing services (aka POPS) to choose from. To determine how they differ, I ordered 4-by-6 prints from 10 of them and graded each based on ease of use, speed of processing, and cost.
Pros have the best printers
If you print a lot of pictures, you may be tempted to invest in a good digital photo printer like the HP Photosmart 7960 ($300). But there are some pitfalls.
"There are printers that print great photos and software to help you do it well, but it can be very tricky," says Serge Timacheff, Olympic fencing photographer and photo studio owner in the Pacific Northwest.
