May 14--The state will put up $150,000 to help Onslow County groups bolster Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station during a coming round of military base closings, Gov. Mike Easley said Thursday.
Easley said a matching grant will go to the Onslow County Committee of 100, which usually works on economic development. He said combining local and state resources would help preserve the state's military presence.
It would appear that Camp Lejeune, touted as the world's largest amphibious training base, would be relatively safe from base closing efforts.
