Thailand's Tyre Industry Hurt as Violence in South Disrupts Rubber Supply.
May 1--The escalating violence in the South of Thailand is taking its toll on the tyre industry with manufacturers now facing a shortage of raw material supply, putting their production plans in jeopardy.
A source from Bridgestone Natural Rubber (Thailand), a subsidiary of the giant Japanese tyremaker, said the company had faced some shortages of raw materials since the beginning of the year in the three southernmost provinces as some farmers were threatened by the violence and consequently less latex was being tapped, adding that it now had enough stock to meet production needs for the first half of May.
