Nissan hybrid-come-lately

Several years behind rivals Toyota and Honda, Nissan will enter the hybrid race in 2006 with an '07-model gas-electric Altima. The hybrid will use the base Altima's 2.5-liter, 175-hp four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to electric-drive parts from Toyota. Nissan says the Altima Hybrid's electric motor will put out 100 kW, or twice that of the Prius.

Hitting the X-Trail

The next generation of Nissan's home, Asian-and European-market X-Trail compact SUV, a competitor of the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV, is "under consideration'' for the United States.
