Jun. 16--Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium is "fast approaching obsolescence" and may not be worth the $115 million-plus renovation it needs, according to a facility-assessment report made public Tuesday.
Several members of the City Council's parks committee promptly agreed, saying a new stadium is the long-term solution.
For now, modest improvements expected to total $15 million over three years will continue, from painting and repairs to concrete for next season to a new artificial turf field for 2005.
