May 26--The Boone County Purchasing Department is planning to start an online auction for county surplus property.

The department's e-procurement project -- sending bid notices to vendors by e-mail and posting bidding information online -- started last year and has won an achievement award from the Missouri Association of Counties.

Melinda Bobbitt, the division's director, is looking at expanding online services through a six-month pilot program to sell old computers, chairs and desks to the public on the county's Web site, beginning this fall.
