Etoricoxib appears as effective as indomethacin for pain relief: acute gouty arthritis.(Clinical Rounds)

ORLANDO, FLA. -- Etoricoxib is as effective as indomethacin for acute gouty arthritis, Dr. David I. Daikh reported in a poster at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Daikh and his colleagues pooled results from two phase III randomized, double-blind studies in a total of 339 subjects and found no significant difference in the efficacy of the two drugs over 8 days of treatment, regardless of pain severity or difference in age (see box).

While both drugs were effective among the patients reporting moderate pain, they both were significantly more effective in reducing baseline pain among those who were severely affected, according to …
