During a celebratory evening in the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College in Manhattan, on 15 December 2003, the Shakespeare Society of New York awarded its medal to Sir Peter Hall in recognition of a lifetime's contributions to the theatre, especially to the Shakespearean theatre. Hall founded the Royal Shakespeare Company and later piloted the National Theatre through many successful years, more recently launching his own Peter Hall Company, still flourishing today--its production of As You Like It, directed by Sir Peter for the first time in his career, toured the States for nine weeks in 2003, and the cast included Sir Peter's own daughter, Rebecca, who participated in the Shakespeare Society's tribute.
