AUSTIN -- Austin is about to play a major part in the future of the personal computer industry.

Apple Computer Inc., International Business Machines Corp. and Motorola Inc. have forged an alliance in which they will work together to create a compatible personal computer system, said company officials who delivered the long-awaited announcement in a teleconference at Motorola's MOS 11 facilities in Oak Hill earlier this month.

IBM and Motorola officials are seeking an Austin facility site in which the microprocessors -- the PowerPCs -- will be designed, said Dan Rogers, manager of public affairs for Motorola.
