Regarding William F. Jasper's article "The Unfolding FTAA Battle" (May 3, 2004 issue): The U.S. House recently passed an amendment to extend unemployment benefits for an estimated two million Americans who have lost their jobs. Not only have they lost jobs and benefits, they're also losing their homes because they can't afford the yearly property tax rent demanded of them.
Over 150 major U.S. companies are outsourcing jobs to third world nations who pay slave wages of $1.50 a day for expected high-yield returns. At the same time, our state legislators, who are chasing their tails trying to entice business and manufacturing jobs back into the United States, can't see the forest for the trees.
