Jun. 4--Several expatriate readers who reviewed our May 7 article on "Employees' Rights at Job Termination" wrote to us with comments and inquiries. As the responses had many points in common, we have chosen some for further elaboration.
The first of these is taken from an inquiry by an expatriate executive regarding the application of "payment in lieu of advance notice". The Labour Protection Act (LPA), which applies to protect Thai and non-Thai employees alike, provides in relevant part at Section 17 that: "The employment contract shall expire at the end of the agreed period without any requirement for advance notice.
