Jun. 3--The loss-ridden Bangkok Mass Transit Authority hopes to cut its operating losses to the break-even point by 2006 and turn a profit in later years under a new restructuring plan.
The Bangkok bus operator has amassed accumulated losses of 43 billion baht, with additional losses of three billion per year, due to inefficiencies and the cost of offering subsidised fares.
The plan covers existing losses of 30 billion baht, another seven billion in liabilities incurred from bus purchases and another two billion in projected costs coming due next year for an early retirement programme aimed at streamlining the ...
