Jun. 2--The May consumer price index rose 2.4 percent year-on-year, largely due to higher food prices, according to the Commerce Ministry.
Headline inflation was up 0.4 percent in May from the previous month, with the price index from January to May up 2.2 percent compared with the first five months of last year, said Karun Kittisataporn, the ministry's permanent secretary.
He said the price of eggs had remained high due to the supply shortage, while meat prices were also up sharply since the bird flu outbreak earlier this year.
